eRepublic.org's mission is to work toward having a world where much more of its population is provided today's technological opportunities (in practical terms and approaches) to participate in governmental functioning and decision making and where governments utilize today's technology much more to improve their effectiveness in serving their citizens and other customers (such as international business, tourists and other world travelers).
This mission is driven by the belief, derived from on-the-ground experiences, that all of us who live in mainly democratic societies (from a bicycle repairman working beneath a tree in Ségou, Mali, to a women selling produce from a stall in the central market in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to a CEO sitting in a corporate office in Dallas, Texas) want and believe in the right to be involved in the policy making, functioning and benefits of our governments.
As more people and governments become aware of the benefits and profits of today's computer and internet technology (thanks in large part to such notable actions as The Leland Initiative and similar works) and as the infrastructure for its use has expanded to many corners of the world (such as to neighborhood internet cafes in Antananarivo, Madagascar and Sikasso, Mali), the means and opportunities to share one's ideas on government functioning or policies and the means and opportunities for a government to provide more efficiently its services and resources to its citizens and others have also greatly increased.
But there is still plenty of room and work to be done on supporting and pushing for the expansion of these efforts and there is plenty of refinement and focusing of efforts to be done to provide truly useful government access and resources...access not just to the better educated, upper-levels of republic or democratic societies but to all the communities and individuals within.
The practical benefits of these actions to both the governments and the citizens who choose and better use their governments will be enormous...not to mention, much, the associated benefits derived from the related education of the user and his or her subsequent activities.
You do not need myriad studies and long-winded developement reports to tell you any of this; so... Allons-y, as one may say in French.
